An Enjoyable Weekend
This weekend saw my parents come over for a visit, and we went to two main places: Liverpool and Lyme Park. Having never been to either of those places, it was a great experience. Liverpool seemed like a good city, and the docks were pretty interesting. The cathedral was particularly impressive and worth the trek up hill.
On the Sunday, we visited Lyme Park, going into both the house and gardens, alongside having a walk up to the Lantern. About an hour from Manchester in the car, it was nice to be reminded that you really don’t have to go far to get back into beautiful countryside. The house itself was pretty interesting to look around and the gardens were very well kept, looking great in nearly autumn foliage.
Walking around the house and gardens, in the surrounding land, also produced a treat. The weather, having been dull and grey to start with had cheered up enormously so on the walk up to ‘The Lantern’ we got great views down onto Manchester and surrounding area. As usual, the Beetham Tower stuck out like a sore thumb, but it was interesting to note just how surrounded by hills Manchester was. We even suspected we could see the hill of North Wales in the very far distance, though haze was an issue.
Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Lyme Park, even if not into the house and garden. Being National Trust, there is moderate car entrance fee but arguably it’s worth it.
