There and Back Again

Wow, it has been a while since I last posted on here. Two months near enough in fact. What's important though is that I'm back and ready to start positing a bit more often, though don't expect too much. During the time I've been absent I've managed to get on a few walks, mostly in the Peak District but even one in the Lakes. The latter is the one I'd like to just show a few photos from as the weather for most of the day was quite nice, if a little cold.

Having caught the train from Manchester, I arrived in Windermere station at around half ten. I promptly began to make my way through the Lakeland car park, turning left out onto a little lane and up to the main road. This I followed along for a little bit, until just after the first set of farm building, turning right following a signed path. I then followed this across a couple of fields, roughly going in a straight line until going through a gate and climbing up and over the railway.

After crossing the railway I passed by a row of garages, carrying on down the road and then on the bend heading down a narrower lane to the left. I kept on this narrow lane, eventually it become too small for cars, before crossing over a small stone bridge, and turning right to follow a path signed to School Knott. I followed this path for a while, sticking close to the back of the housing estate, and passing by the attractive Droober Cottage.

Immediately after the cottage, there was a set of stair to my right which I took, crossing over a stile into a field. I walked straight up this field, when reaching the boundary at the top, didn't pass through the gap available, but followed the wall round keeping it to my left. Further following the wall uphill, it eventually came to another stile, where I clambered over onto another small lane. Crossing this, I went through a gate and began to follow the path downhill.

At the bottom of the hill, at the backs of some houses, I turned left and continued to follow the path. This eventually reached a sort of T-junction, and I turned left again, crossing over a small stile, and continued on forwards. Eventually this reached a farm called Helm Farm, which I passed by and through a gate into a field on the left which I began to cross roughly diagonally. Eventually this reached another gate on the other side of the field, and continued straight on the other side of it. First I followed a surfaced road, but when the road bent round, I carried on straight over grass before reaching another gate, passing through into a field which I again went across slightly at an angle to the right.

Arriving at the corner of the field, there was another gate which passed onto a small trail/lane. I walked along this for a short distance, passing by a lane on my left and then turning left on to a path. I followed this straight up a wooded hill, passing over another wall where I turned left again, at which point I began to be able to see Brant Fell. I made my way fairly quickly then up to the top of the Fell.

After enjoying the view, I made my way back down the hill in a westward direction. A wall running along the western side of the Fell had a gate in it at its northern end. Passing through this gate, I then followed path, first too a small view point and then downhill making my way into the town area of Bowness-On-Windermere. After spending some time in the town, I made my way back up via the main road to the train station.
